Chennai Passport Office does all the works related to passport issue. The Regional Passport Office of Chennai first came into existence in 1955. Earlier it was situated at George Town and later it was shifted to Shastri Bhavan in the year 1966. Initially it is the only passport office for Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry and also the southern states--Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. In 1976, separate passport offices have been established for each state.
