Known as the 'Margazhi Festival of Dance and Music' this dance and music festival of the city was held first in 1927 to celebrate the Madras Music Academy’s anniversary in December. It was later become a part of the cultural life of the people. More than 300 concerts are held and a total of 2000 participants take part in this festival. The celebrated month is the sacred Tamil month of Hindus.
There is something divine in origin of Carnatic Music and people have a belief that in the music and dance festival melody and divinity mingle to create a divine atmosphere. The main concerts of this festival are performances of vocal and instrumental musician, solo and group dance, etc.
