Parthasarathy Temple
Chennai tour is incomplete without a visit to this temple of the city. Though it has some typical features of an ancient temple yet it is known for its own striking features. It is located in the heart of the city at Peter Road, Triplicane. One can reach this temple by auto, rickshaw or hired taxis.
The Parthasarathy temple dates back in 8th century built by the Pallavas, one of the ruling dynasties of the ancient state and later modified and reformed by the Vijayanagar Kings during 11th century. Parthasarathy's literal meaning is charioteer. In Indian epic Mahabharata, partha means Arjuna and sarathy means charioteer. During the great battle of Mahabharata, Krishna plays the role of charioteer of Arjuna who is friend, philosopher and guide to Arjuna.

The main deity of the temple is 'Lord Krishna,' one of the incarnations of Lord Vishnu and other incarnations of Vishnu are worshipped here. The main striking feature of the temple is the decorated and colored Gopuram, which is the pyramid shape of the top, a common feature of the south Indian temples.
