Kapaleeswarar Temple
The Kapaleeswarar temple is a must visit temple in Chennai located at the Kutchery Road, Mylapore. One can reach this temple easily from the Chennai city.
An emblem of Dravidian style and architecture, the main attraction of the temple is 37-meter tall gopuram i.e. the pyramid shaped temple top which is carved intricately. The inner house of the temple houses a sculpture, and an interesting story has behind it. It is said that a saint namely Gnanasambandar brought back to life of a dead girl by singing hymns.

Goddess Parvati, the wife of Lord Shiva is depicted in the temple as a peacock and she worships here the lingam or the idol of Lord Shiva. The other attractions of the temple are its bronze idols of 63-Shaivate saints; these carvings are carried in temple procession during the Aruvathumoovar festival held in March-April. In the temple complex a holy Punnai tree is seen which one of the oldest trees of Chennai city.
The Fragmentary inscriptions of the temple date back to 1250 AD, but the temple was refurbished by the rulers of Vijayanagara in the 16th century.
