Valluvar Kottam
Valluvar Kottam, a memorial of Tamil classical poet Thiruvalluvar located on the edge of Kodambakkam high road. Poet Thiruvalluvar wrote the famous Thirukkurals about 2,000 years before. It is built in 1976. It is designed in the shape of a temple with a life-size image of the poet inside it. The 101 feet high temple chariot is made of a single stone. The location at which this memorial stands was once a deep point of a lake. In front hall corridors 1330 verses of Thirukkural are inscribed on bas-relief. On the day of full moon Valluvar Kottam wears a look which will catch one’s glance at first sight.

The renowned South Indian architect Dr. V. Ganapati Sthapati designs this memorial. The auditorium of Valluvar Kottam has a sitting capacity of 4,000 people.
While visiting Chennai one must explore this memorial of the Tamil poet. It has many temples in the complex. One will sure surprise to see its wonderful architecture. There is also a library in the vicinity which has books on poet Thiruvalluvar and his works and a lush garden which adds beauty to this area.
