Senate House
Senate House of Chennai is not to be a missed monument while touring Chennai city. It is located in the Madras University Campus in close proximity to the lively Marina Beach. The great architect Robert Fellowes Chisholm supervised the building of this Senate house. Its construction was completed in 1869.

The architecture of the Senate House is a fusion of Indo-Saracenic style along with Byzantine architectural features. The grand central room of the Senate has six giant stone pillars. This building is covered by towers and embraced by domes painted colorfully. There are two entrances on east and west respectively. In the front style of entrance elegant porticos are seen.
This senate house once is home to some of the university departments and the offices of the Vice-Chancellor and Registrar. Now it stands with its pale image yet the University of Madras tried its effort to refurbish it as a heritage property.
