Velankanni Church

Velankanni Church is one of the most renowned churches in Tamil Nadu. One can reach this church by a train journey from Chennai. One has to board the train at Tambaram station which is 40 minutes drive from Madras central railway station. This Velankanni church is located at Nagapattinam which is earlier named as City of Coromandel by the Portuguese. One can also reach this church from Trichy and Thanjavur by rail. It is 350 kilometers away from Chennai city.

Known as the 'Mecca of the Christians' this church is dedicated to Mother Mary who is also known as Lady of Health as devotees worship her for cure of diseases. People of all religions visit this church to worship Mother Mary.

The main attraction of the church is its sky-reaching towers. Devotees visit this church to get rid of the diseases. Offering are given in various forms. The church also houses a museum which has collections of various offerings of the followers of Mother Mary.
